Russian fencers will only participate in international tournaments if they have the same rights as athletes from other countries. This was stated by the head of the Russian ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov.
Pozdnyakov said he had repeatedly discussed with team members the format he proposed to “return” to international sports with significant restrictions, but none of them considered such an option.
“The position is unanimous – our fencers will only participate if they have the same rights as athletes from other countries, without wacky and illegal parameters and other artificial obstacle courses,” he wrote on his Telegram channel. .
Today we learned about the decision of the International Fencing Federation not to allow Olympic champions Sofia Velikaya, Yana Yegoryan and Sofia Pozdnyakova to participate in the competitions. The head of the Russian Fencing Federation, Ilgar Mammadov, noted with regret the absence of “familiar names” and “a lot of other promising and strong guys” in the list of fencers admitted to the start.
