Oleic acid-rich diet prolongs human life

– Published on:

Stanford scientists have found that oleic acid, in the form of a monounsaturated fatty acid, increases lifespan.

The Mediterranean diet is rich in oleic acid. The benefit lies in the fatty molecules that protect cells from oxidation, which greatly harms them.

A worm study using an oleic acid-rich diet showed lifespan increased by 35% compared to trans fat consumers. More specifically, oleic acid promotes the growth of lipid droplets that control metabolism and provide energy to the body.

In addition, redox processes improved in the body of the experimental subjects. Writes about it Lenta.ru with reference to the journal Nature Cell Biology. An experiment with older animals also showed a positive effect – life was extended by 33%.

All this suggests that the diet is extremely important, regardless of the type of living being and age. The beneficial effect of oleic acid is applicable to maintain human health.
