Qism al-Sayed has remained diligent in his studies throughout the last period after choosing to major in the science course in hopes that he would become a doctor or an engineer in the future, he said. to the “Sky News Arabia” site, despite the great obstacles encountered during the school year in Sudan, he became scientifically and morally ready to take the secondary school exams, which were due to take place on June 10.

A few days after the high school exam date, war breaks out between the military and the Rapid Support Forces, so Muhammad finds himself displaced to West Kordofan state with his family. His dreams and aspirations of achieving a high pass rate evaporated with him, spilling waterfalls of joy into their home in Omdurman and then joining college.

Shock thousands

The Sayed section embodies the reality of approximately 500,000 male and female students who were preparing to take the standardized high school exams in Sudan, and were shocked by the flames of war raging in the capital, Khartoum, and other cities, then their dreams. were shattered and they were trapped among the displaced and refugees, or those imprisoned in houses for fear of being reaped by the bullets of conflict. .

The secondary certificate represents an important academic right in Sudan, and it receives great attention from students and their families, and its advent is like an academic season that all Sudanese, even those without children, are eagerly awaiting. impatient for examinations, and the moment of the announcement of its results is a cause of noisy joy accompanied by dinghies and fires inside houses and roads, or a cause of deep sadness for families whose students do not haven’t had the chance.

A member of the Sudanese Teachers’ Committee, Ali Obaid Abkar, believes that given the continuing armed conflict, it remains difficult to hold secondary school exams on time, or even to talk about them. The current priority is to restore security stability and improve the poor humanitarian situation of students, their families and all those affected by the war.

Abkar told Sky News Arabia: “The secondary school certificate exams have not been canceled so students cannot enter university without them as they are highly confidential and secure. great academic importance, but it may take months of delay, even if the war stops, because it needs many adjustments, including the rehabilitation of schools and the return of students.” At home, this case needs a lot of of time.

deeply sad

The student, Qasim Al-Sayed Muhammad, expresses his deep sadness at the outbreak of the war, which has so far prevented him from realizing his dream of passing the high school exam, a historic moment he had long awaited . his life.

Muhammad told Sky News Arabia: “I spent nights studying my homework and was ready to take the high school exam, but now I’ve lost my enthusiasm and have forgotten most of the lessons I learned. I had memorized and understood, and I’m not at all ready to I’m very sad to have left school and the separation from my friends.” Together, we dreamed of success.

The shock didn’t stop with the students, but extended to their families, who looked forward to moments of joy at their success after spending everything to support themselves in school and overcome the obstacles before them.

Mahdi Farouk told Sky News Arabia: “The date of the announcement of the high school graduation results is when we taste the taste of our children and smell their fruits. The joy of a son or daughter’s achievement. A daughter is a feeling beyond compare, and I’ve experienced it before, and I wanted to renew the joy of my daughter’s success this year, but it may rob us of war this time.

He added, “This war must end quickly, as it robbed us of the joy of graduating from high school this year, and we were displaced and experienced a bitter reality. It is a great ordeal that we can no longer bear with its shocks.

historic event

And if the secondary school graduation in Sudan is postponed because of the war, it will be the first time that this event will be absent from the Sudanese in its history. It started in the year 1938 and was called the General Certificate of Education to enter the University of Cambridge, which continued until 1954 AD.

After the independence of the country in 1956, it became the Sudanese school certificate and remained there until 1970, then the upper secondary certificate, and from 1980 until now it continues as the secondary certificate.

So far, the Sudanese Ministry of Education has not spoken about the future of secondary school exams for this year, but a member of the Sudanese Teachers’ Committee (an independent trade union entity), Ali Obaid Abkar, confirms that ‘it is impossible to hold them in the short term.

Ali Obeid says, “Normally, high school exams need specific security devices to secure them, so what will be the situation in light of this security disorder?”

He adds, “It is sad that the most important scientific event and the unique rituals that characterize Sudanese families in the face of high school exams and their results are missing. It is a great shock added to the tragedies of the war which has struck various sources of joy and happiness for the Sudanese, but our hope is that the armed conflict will stop for Soon life will return to normal.
