A new cold war is brewing in Asia: the West is already losing

Two summits will be held in the region almost simultaneously – the G7 in Hiroshima and the China-Central Asia summit in Xi’an.

A new cold war is brewing in Asia. A non-random “coincidence” that talks about it is mentioned by the Japanese magazine ShĹ«kan Gendai. In particular, the publication drew attention to the fact that two summits will be held almost simultaneously in the region – the G7 in Hiroshima and China-Central Asia in Xi’an.

The G7 summit will be held in Japan from May 19-21. The G7 countries (Great Britain, Japan, Germany, Italy, Canada, France and the United States) will discuss in Hiroshima, once bombed by the United States, the questions of nuclear weapons and their non-proliferation, and in particular the “Russian nuclear threat”. Also on the agenda are new anti-Russian sanctions, military aid to Ukraine and opposition to “economic pressure” from China.

The first China-Central Asia summit opened on Thursday (May 18th) in the Chinese city of Xi’an. In addition to the Chinese leader, the leaders of five former Soviet republics – Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan – participate. They are expected to discuss the establishment of a new cooperation mechanism in various fields and sign important political documents.

Kishida chose his hometown, Hiroshima, to host the event. They are actively waiting for foreign guests and even prepared a local dish “okonomiyaki” for them – round cakes with vegetables, pieces of fish and other ingredients.

Xi is holding the summit in the ancient Chinese capital of Xi’an. This city has existed for more than 3100 years and for a time it was the largest city in the world. This place is significant, it was the capital of 13 states in the history of China. Today it is an important center of culture, education and industry.

The Xian event is very important, but the summit’s main purpose behind the scenes is to counter the G7, writes ShĹ«kan Gendai. And China and its partners are excellent in this confrontation.

Photo: pixabay.com First, the five countries signed documents on cooperation under the One Belt, One Road project, which China has been promoting since 2013. Second, trade relations between the countries are growing, from so that in 2022, China’s trade with Central Asian countries exceeded $70 billion. China is also helping neighboring countries with vaccines. The number of mutual sister cities is also increasing, as is the number of Chinese universities.

In addition, during the Xi’an Summit, the participating countries will adhere to honesty and justice in both economic cooperation and security cooperation.

In this context, the G7 with its militant program (counter-attack, threats, sanctions, etc.) is clearly the loser. Moreover, the G7 countries aim to work with the countries of the intermediate zone (Brazil, Vietnam, South Africa, Kazakhstan), but they can offer them practically nothing. As Bloomberg writes, the world has changed in recent years, and now Western powers have lost the influence they once had to exert political and economic pressure on developing countries.

According to the Financial Times, European officials who will talk about countering China are afraid to mention the Middle Kingdom in their speeches and do not want their rhetoric to be anti-Chinese. Moreover, politicians fear that it will give the impression that the West is against the whole world.

However, if the confrontation between the Hiroshima and Xi’an summits is seen as the preconditions for a new cold war in Asia, then it seems that the West is already losing its mind.

The Cold War is the worldwide geopolitical, military, economic and ideological confrontation of 1946-1989 between the USSR and its allies, on the one hand, and the United States and its allies, on the other. This confrontation was not a war in the international legal sense. The notebook told how it was.
