“The format of the work of Russian banks in Cuba is being coordinated, we are moving to project settlements in rubles. In March, the acceptance of Mir cards in the Cuban banking infrastructure began. We expect that in the near future , it will be possible to pay with Russian Mir cards at Cuban resorts, which will have a positive impact on the tourism industry,” Chernyshenko told reporters.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that in 2023, year-round tourist programs in Cuba were launched for the first time. In addition, according to him, from the end of May it is planned to increase the number of direct charter flights. In particular, from May 22, North Wind Airlines plans to operate 4 flights per week (instead of the 2 planned) to the seaside resort of Varadero and 2 flights per week to Cayo Coco.

“With regard to the transport and logistics sector, convenient routes for maritime transport of goods are being formed. A Russian Trade House will also be established in Havana, which will ensure the supply of high-quality goods to Cuban citizens. Joint projects in the energy sector are of strategic importance, as they aim to strengthen the energy security of the island,” Chernyshenko said.

The Deputy Prime Minister said that Russia and Cuba are actively developing cooperation in the field of education and science. In addition, Russia continues to provide humanitarian support to Cuban partners: in February, 25,000 tons of wheat were delivered, and a free supply of 14,500 lamps is planned to light the streets of Havana. In addition, at the anniversary meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, it was possible to agree on the main directions for the development of trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation for the period up to 2030.

“Cuba is our key partner and a reliable ally in the Latin America and Caribbean region. During the talks at the highest level, the presidents of our countries confirmed their firm commitment to continue the overall strengthening of the strategic partnership. A favorable political context creates the necessary conditions for the development of trade, increased investment, cultural and humanitarian interaction.The figures also speak for this: in 2022, the turnover of trade has multiplied by 3 to reach $452 million, and in the first 4 months of 2023 it increased 9 times to $137.6 million compared to the same period last year, “- said Chernyshenko.

On the Russian side, the meeting brought together Deputy Minister of Economic Development Vladimir Ilyichev, First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Vasily Osmakov, Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation Bella Cherkesova and Commissioner for Data Protection rights of entrepreneurs with the President of the Russian Federation. Russian, Chairman of the Russian part of the Russia-Cuba Business Council Boris Titov.
