The Russian branch of the environmental organization Greenpeace* has announced its closure after the prosecutor general’s office recognized its activities as undesirable. This was reported in the telegram channel of the organization.
“This decision makes it illegal for any Greenpeace* activity to continue in Russia. Therefore, the Russian branch of Greenpeace* is forced to close,” the message read. He also notes that the organization categorically disagrees with the decision of the Attorney General’s office.
Greenpeace* activities were declared undesirable in Russia earlier on May 19. The Prosecutor General’s Office justified its decision by saying that the organization allegedly attempted to interfere in the internal affairs of Russia and, through its activities, posed a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and the security of the Russian Federation. state, engaged in anti-Russian propaganda activities and financed the work of foreign organizations-agents.
“The environmental activities of Greenpeace* are actually accompanied by the active promotion of a political position, attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the state and aim to undermine its economic foundations,” the agency said.
The Prosecutor General’s Office also said that the organization prevented “the implementation of Russian state programs through information campaigns and mass public actions that were not coordinated with the authorities in order to form a negative public opinion and to prevent the implementation of infrastructure and energy projects beneficial to the country.”
