“Zodiac the Killer” .. thorny investigations damage the case of the serial killer

– Published on:

Thomas Colbert, an investigative reporter and team leader, said in a press release this week that an FBI agent told Francis Post, an Air Force veteran, that he was considered as a suspect in the case according to DNA samples.

The “Zodiac the Killer” was a serial killer who began his crimes in the late sixties, in California, between December 1968 and October 1969, and his victims were between 16 and 29 years old.

He escaped justice and the police never succeeded in arresting him, but he left several coded messages which he sent to the newspapers.

“The criminal has been secretly listed as a suspect on FBI Headquarters computers since 2016,” the team wrote in a press release.

In light of the efforts of amateurs and professionals to investigate the case to find the killer, the FBI has consistently dismissed reports and findings that the case has been solved and told “Fox News” in October 2021 the case was still open.

The Case Breaker team hopes law enforcement will match the DNA found at the crime scenes with Post’s.

“The FBI’s investigation into the Zodiac Killer remains open and unsolved,” the San Francisco FBI told Fox News in a statement. “Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation and out of respect for the victims and their families, we will not be providing further comment at this time.”

The killer began his crimes in late 1968 by killing a couple in their car by firing squad. In July 1969 he shot and killed another couple and managed to escape.

Another couple were stabbed to death near a city lake in October of the same year, before a taxi driver was shot dead.

The killer claimed to have killed 37 people in one of his letters that he sent to the newspapers, but police investigations concluded that he had killed only 7 people.

The killer’s story inspired filmmakers and embodied it in two famous films, “Dirty Harry” in 1971 and “Zodiac” in 2007.
