New Delhi. For the first time in India, a commercial passenger aircraft successfully took off on Friday using indigenously made Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend. Air asia flight (i5 767) reached Delhi from Pune on Friday. It used SAF supplied by Indian Oil Corporation Limited in partnership with Praj Industries Limited (Praj).

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri arrived at Delhi airport to receive this aircraft. In a program in this regard, he said that this is a step towards self-reliance in the field of energy. In the coming times, the petroleum sector is going to make a big contribution to the self-sufficiency of the energy sector. This will prove to be an important milestone in the country’s efforts towards net zero emissions of carbon by 2070.

Speaking on the occasion, Puri said, “By 2025, if we aim to have 1 per cent SAF blending in jet fuel, India will need around 140 million liters of SAF per annum. More ambitiously, if we aim for 5 per cent SAF blending, India would need about 700 million liters of SAF per annum. ,
