After the success of “the Westernization of Al Qafar”… Al Qasimi reveals the backstage of the novel

– Published on:

Al-Qasimi said in statements to “Sky News Arabia” that the task of the narrator is to delve into the details of his country’s heritage, to shed light on the secrets of that heritage, and this was evident in my novels “Al-Qafir Al-Qafir” and “Mountain Al-Shaw'”.

Al Qasimi’s novel, which won the International Prize for Arabic Fiction, is set in an Omani village and tells the story of Salem bin Abdullah, one of the water trackers whom the villages ask for help when searching for underground water sources.

Al-Qasimi tried, in choosing the name “Al-Qafar Al-Qafir”, to reflect the suffering that the hero of the story endured in his life, and which embodied in the details of his personality the suffering of the workers on the land of aflaj, indicating that Al-Qafir is an ancient Arabic term meaning the person who follows the trail.

He added that the character of the hero depends on his feelings to determine the sources of water, which he can predict, discover and be guided by his senses, pointing out that the Omani personality is characterized by asceticism and mysticism, but it is a mysticism imposed by the nature of everyday life as a way of life.

It took two years to write “The Alienation of Al Qafar”, punctuated by a series of pauses during which the writer was careful not to be affected by the characters in his story.

Al-Qasimi pointed out that as soon as he wrote the phrase “everything was taken with him”, he knew within him that what he had written was truly the end of the novel.

Al-Qasimi expressed the difficulties faced by the Omani novel by pointing out that the difficulty of marketing is at the top of the list of these difficulties, knowing that the Omani people are well informed and educated and have books which they have kept for a long time. duration.

Al-Qasimi has a number of novels, such as “Jabal Al-Shawa”, “Al-Qannas”, “House of Honey”, and “Sirat Al-Hijr”.
