German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said Kyiv would continue to receive Western weapons after the conflict ended. In an interview with the Welt television channel, he justified this with “security guarantees”.
In the future, we will also have to talk about security guarantees, that’s clear. These security guarantees include the extent to which we will arm Ukraine in the future.
Scholz said.
According to him, Western countries have not yet discussed security guarantees for Ukraine, since the conflict is not yet over.
Furthermore, Scholz noted that Ukraine will not join NATO in the foreseeable future, also because joining the alliance provides for a number of criteria that Kiev is currently unable to meet.
In 2008, in Bucharest, NATO adopted decisions defining a long-term vision. It is clear to everyone that in the foreseeable future this (the entry of Ukraine into NATO. – editor’s note) will not happen
said the German Chancellor.
Earlier, the head of the German government, on the sidelines of the G7 summit, commented on the training of Ukrainian Armed Forces pilots in the use of F-16 fighters in combat. long-term project and a “signal for Russia”. According to him, Moscow should not expect “support for Ukraine to diminish as the conflict develops”.
