This service introduces what is known in the industry as “unaccompanied trailer vehicles”, i.e. trailer vehicles that can be transported by sea without a driver and without an accompanying trailer, since the trailer is left alongside by the driver, then it is towed inside the ship and extracted from it alone.
This service is the first of its kind in the UAE and is provided by P&O Navigation, a subsidiary of the DB World Group.
This service takes approximately 36 hours to transport trailers between the port of Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates and the port of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq.
Unaccompanied trailers are loaded onto ro-ro cargo ships, without the driver and trailer towing at the port; Once the trailer reaches the port of Umm Qasr, an Iraqi truck can drive it to its final destination anywhere in the country; Once delivered, the empty trailer is returned to the port of Umm Qasr and shipped to Jebel Ali.
Goods shipped by road from the United Arab Emirates to Iraq had to be transferred from the original truck to a locally registered vehicle, which is a time-consuming process that can expose the goods to damage and contamination, and threaten the security.
