Ministry of Defense of Russia reported that more than 70 saboteurs who broke into the Belgorod region were destroyed. According to the agency, the remains of the intruders were “thrown back into Ukrainian territory”.
“During the anti-terrorist operation, the Nationalist formations were blocked and defeated by airstrikes, artillery fire and the active actions of the State Border Cover Units of the Western Military District. The remnants of the Nationalists were pushed back into the territory of Ukraine, where they continued to be hit by fire until their complete elimination, ”reports the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
According to the agency, more than 70 saboteurs, four armored fighting vehicles and five pickup trucks were destroyed.
The head of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced the day before the penetration of a Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance group into the urban Graivoronsky district of the Belgorod region. In the evening of the same day, an anti-terrorist operation regime was established in the Belgorod region.
On May 23, Gladkov announced that the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement continued to clear territories in the Graivoronsky district and asked local residents not to return to their homes for the time being. According to the governor, several residents were injured in the incident. A woman in 1941 died during evacuation, the causes of her death are being established.
Russian President’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the attack of Ukrainian saboteurs on the territory of the Belgorod region “causes deep concern and requires great efforts on our part.” The commission of inquiry opened a criminal investigation under articles on the terrorist attack, the endangerment of the life of law enforcement officers, the attempted murder, the intentional destruction or damage to property, illegal trafficking in weapons and explosives.
