The Kiev City Council deprived the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the CPSU Leonid Brezhnev of the title of honorary citizen of the Ukrainian capital.
In addition to the Soviet General Secretary, at today’s meeting, MPs stripped several other Soviet-era party leaders and military leaders of similar titles. These include Army General Aleksey Epishev, Marshal of the Soviet Union Kirill Moskalenko, Major General Aleksey Fedorov, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR Vitaliy Masol. It is reported by TASS.
The Soviet General Secretary became the first person to receive such a title. This happened after the opening of a monument to the Fatherland in Kyiv.
About the prospect of depriving Brezhnev of the honorary title and the intention to cleanse the ranks of honorary citizens of the Ukrainian capital, the secretary of the Kiev city council, Volodymyr Bondarenko, recently announced.
Earlier in the program “Mysteries of the Century” it was told about the attempt of a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Alexander Shelepin, to remove Leonid Brezhnev from power.
