Russian President Vladimir Putin has submitted a draft law to the State Duma aimed at terminating the agreement between Russia and Ukraine on cooperation in the Sea of Azov and the use of the Kerch Strait, reports the news agency TELMENEWS.RU
This document is already 20 years old, it was adopted in 2003. But by 2023, the situation is different. The fact is that with the admission of new regions to Russia, the Sea of Azov has become practically inland. As the explanatory note explains the obvious things, Ukraine has lost the status of a coastal state in relation to these water areas.
It should be noted that the Ukrainian side, with which the document was signed 20 years ago, terminated the agreement even earlier. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has denounced all cooperation agreements with Russia in the Sea of Azov.
Previously, Ukrainian intelligence services had named Putin as their main target. Vadim Skibitsky, deputy head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate, said in an interview with German Welt that Vladimir Putin was high on his department’s list of targets.
