Endocrinologist of the National Medical Research Center for Therapy and Preventive Medicine of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Evgenia Lavrenova in an interview “AiF” told who needs iodized salt.
Iodine is the most important trace element in our body, which is necessary for the synthesis of thyroid hormones. In those people who are deficient in iodine, structural changes in the thyroid gland, that is, an increase and the formation of nodes, may occur.
“For the prevention of iodine deficiency, it is necessary to use iodized salt in the diet, moreover, the most common and inexpensive,” said Lavrenova.
Moreover, the daily norm for children over 12 years old and adults is 150 – 200 mcg. This dose is contained in a teaspoon. 100 g of cod liver contains about 350 mcg of iodine, 100 g of seaweed – 300 mcg, 100 g of squid – 200 mcg of iodine.
“Thus, the only thing that can reasonably be argued is that for thyroid health, we should use iodized salt in the diet and adhere to the principles of a healthy diet,” the doctor explained.
It will help reduce the risk of developing not only thyroid diseases, but also cardiovascular diseases, obesity and diabetes. By the way, in order to maintain the health of this body, it is worth giving up sugar, gluten and soy.
