With the end of the century… global warming threatens the continuation of life

– Published on:

In one of the most recent studies, she concluded that global warming will expose more than a fifth of humanity to extreme, potentially life-threatening heat by the end of this century.

Global warming is a global concern that haunts countries around the world. Its effects have increased, and its economic cost has become more than ever a phenomenon. As for its human bill, it is getting heavier, and threatens a catastrophe that will fall on hundreds of people. million people around the world.

What does the study say?

The study, published in the journal Nature Persistence, found that global surface temperatures are projected to rise by 2.7 degrees Celsius by 2100, compared to pre-industrial times.

On that date, two billion people will suffer from global warming, which will take them away from the comfortable climatic conditions that have allowed humanity to develop for thousands of years.

most affected countries

The study warned that some countries face a catastrophic fate represented by deadly heat waves, such as India, Nigeria, Indonesia, the Philippines and Pakistan, noting that the risks are increasing in regions along from the equator.

While the climate there could become deadly if temperatures rise, due to humidity preventing the human body from cooling down, and in the worst case, with a higher than expected climate sensitivity to greenhouse gases, the global temperature will rise by 3.6 degrees Celsius and leave nearly half of the world’s population outside of a suitable climate environment.

Experts warn that the worst is yet to come and the record high temperatures will affect hundreds of millions of people with deadly repercussions and turn large parts of the earth into uninhabitable areas, requiring urgent international action to address the disaster. which afflicts the earth and its inhabitants.

The world is on the brink

Ayman Haitham Qaddouri, environmental expert and member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, said in an interview with Sky News Arabia:

  • Global warming is at the center of climate change research processes. The continued increase in temperature rates over the past two decades and its breakdown of global determinants in more than a year have directed scientific efforts to study the effects of this increase.
  • The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said in its 2019 report that the world is on course to exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius, the limit set by the Paris Agreement in 2015 , for an increase in average temperature by the global warming limit in 2050.

  • It is possible that this rate will increase by the end of the century, i.e. in the year 2100, to reach more than 2 degrees Celsius, which threatens the stability of 70% of people by the worsening of the consequences of the climate change process, severe droughts on the one hand and torrential floods on the other, and the scarcity of fresh water And the inability of humans to provide the most important elements of life, the displacement of the zones which the high temperature will make unsuitable for the man towards zones a little colder on the surface of the planet.

  • The study, which was published in the journal Nature Sustainability, which tracks the pace of climate events in recent years, and confirms the findings of studies by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) , adding that breaking the 1.5 degrees Celsius threshold has become a reality and the world is heading towards 2.7 degrees Celsius by the end of the century.

  • Thus, more than one-fifth of the world’s population will be exposed to extremely dangerous temperatures that discourage human activity and lead to fatal health effects resulting in death, in addition to damage resulting from the aggravation of the process of change climate and the succession of natural disasters and their recurrence at an accelerated rate.

How can the world avoid or reduce the effects of global warming?

  • Forecasts indicate an increase in the average annual temperature from 13 to 25 degrees Celsius, the optimum temperature for humans, to reach 29 degrees Celsius, which means a shrinking of the human climate suitable for habitation and the practice of human activities, which puts two billion people at risk, and for this what is needed:
  • Intensifying global efforts to limit global warming and returning to the 1.5°C threshold approved by the Paris Climate Agreement in 2015 is the only way to spare three-quarters of the world’s population a exposure to unprecedented temperatures that are not recorded in climate records regions spread across the climate regions of the Earth.

Compliance with the Paris Climate Agreement requires the commitment of the major industrialized countries, led by the United States, China and India, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions resulting from excessive industrial activity, while activating the role of the “loss and damage” fund to support those affected. countries and address the effects of climate change in developing countries, especially those that are not. It actually contributes to the process of global warming.

Significance of the COP 28 Summit

  • And the launch must be quick and immediate, with a deadline that does not exceed the date of the next climate summit, in the UAE, COP28, and so that the next summit is a turning point towards a more stable climate for future generations.
