Forced labor is being done to more than 25 million people in the 20 richest countries of the world

Geneva. Forced labor is being promoted in the 20 richest countries of the world and modern slavery of more than half of the approximately five million people than half) the country is responsible for. This has been claimed in a report released on Wednesday.

The report of the human rights organization Walk Free Foundation states that the maximum number of people are facing modern slavery in the six countries of the G-20 group. They are either being made to do forced labor, or they are being forced into marriage. India tops the list with 11 million people, followed by China (5.8 million), Russia (1.9 million), Indonesia (1.8 million), Turkey (1.3 million) and the United States (1.1 million).

Most of the countries with the least presence of modern slavery – Switzerland, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Ireland, Japan, and Finland – are also members of the G20, the report said. It states, however, that even in these countries, thousands of people are forced into forced labor or marriage, despite their high levels of economic development, gender equality, social welfare, and political stability, and strong criminal justice systems.

In September last year, the UN’s International Labor Organization and the International Organization for Migration and Walk Free estimated that 50 million people were forced to live in modern slavery by the end of 2021, with 28 million facing forced labor and 2.2 crore people were forcibly married. This is an increase of one crore in just five years from the end of 2016.

According to the report, the countries with the highest number of modern slavery at the end of 2021 included North Korea, Eritrea, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
