Volgograd resident Nikita Zhuravel, suspected of burning the Quran near a mosque, was taken to a remand center in the city of Grozny. On this subject informed RIA News.

On May 21, the Investigative Committee (CI) announced that it had opened a criminal case against Nikita Zhuravel, a 19-year-old resident of Volgograd.

“No later than May 19, 2023, Zhuravel, while in the area of ​​the Mosque-Cathedral, located along Povorinskaya Street in the city of Volgograd, burned the Quran,” the committee said. ‘investigation.

According to the agency, Zhuravel posted a video of the Quran burning on a portal controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces Psychological Information and Operations Center. The Investigative Committee also claims that the detainee confessed to being involved in “another collaborative assistance” in Kiev – the video filming of military installations.

A criminal case was opened under part 2 of article 148 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Public actions clearly expressing a lack of respect for society and committed with the aim of insulting the religious feelings of believers ).
