Concerts of Animal Jazz musicians began to be canceled in Russia

– Published on:

In Vladivostok and Khabarovsk, the concerts of the group Zero People, consisting of members of the St. Petersburg rock band Animal JaZ Alexander Krasovitsky and Alexander Zarankin, have been canceled. The day before, the “patriotic” public movement “People’s Appeal” appealed to the authorities with a complaint against the musicians.

Performances of Zero People in Khabarovsk and Vladivostok were scheduled for June 15 and 18 respectively. The organizers announced the cancellation of these concerts “for technical reasons” in telegraph chats for visitors (1 , 2 ).

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope to see you again next year! commented the cancellation of the performance in Khabarovsk by the representative of the team in the community on VKontakte.

Zero People concerts were canceled after the June 16 “Call of the People” public movement turned to the heads of the Ministry of Culture, the Investigative Committee, the FSB and the Ministry of Justice with a request to “restrict” the concerts of the Animal Jazz group in the territory. Activists also called for the musicians to be vetted “for possible grounds of recognition as foreign agents”.

Representatives of the movement expressed claims to Animal Jazz due to the critical statements of the group’s soloist Alexander Krasovitsky, made in different years. In particular, “Call of the People” reported that the musician in an interview with Yuri Dudyu * said that he was “infinitely ashamed of relations between Russia and Ukraine.” In addition, the activists claim that in “their talks”, members of the group “actively supported the Ukrainian Armed Forces, called for demonstrations”, and after the start of the military operation in Ukraine, “they did not not support Russia, considering it a toxic and abusive country.

“In the context of these anti-war and anti-Russian statements, the question arises, how is this group allowed to hold concerts on the territory of the Russian Federation?” — indicated in the call.

June 17 “People’s Call” reported on his page on VKontakte that the performance of Zero People in Vladivostok was canceled after activists of the movement spoke with a representative of the concert hall.

“Call of the People” calls itself as a movement, the purpose of which is “a national-patriotic and conservative association, the main purpose is the protection of Russia and the people, the development of its traditions, culture, morals, spiritual ties and its history”. After a complaint by activists to the General Prosecutor’s Office in February 2020, rappers Osobov and Slimus deleted his video for the song “Enjoy Your Bath” about a drug-addicted priest.

The Animal Jazz concert at the Flacon design factory in Moscow, scheduled for July 15, was also threatened with cancellation. “The People’s Appeal” in its appeal called for an inspection of the site of the capital because of the organization of the representation of an “anti-Russian group supporting Ukraine”.

Earlier, the organizers of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) canceled the Zveri band concert, which was previously announced among the events. Instead, Chizh & So and Django performed at SPIEF. The performance of the “Beasts” was canceled after the deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly, Konstantin Chebykin, asked the St. Petersburg prosecutor’s office to ban their concert due to the soloist’s anti-war statements Roman Bilyk.

In the summer of 2022 Fontanka published an unofficial list of musicians and bands whose performances, according to the publication, are recognized in Russia as “undesirable” after the start of the military operation in Ukraine. The list includes Zemfira*, Noize MC*, Oksimiron*, DDT, Bi-2, Valery Meladze, Nogu Svelo!, Aquarium, Time Machine, Little Big, Aloe Vera, Anacondaz and other artists and teams. The concerts of these musicians are disrupted by the security forces or canceled at the initiative of the organizers. About who in Russia makes the “blacklists” of musicians, read the Russian media material.
