The Witcher producers Steve Gaub and Tomek Baginski said in an interview with Yahoo! news, as in the new – third – season of the series, the main actor – Henry Cavill – will be replaced by Liam Hemsworth. The fact that the third season will be Cavill’s last was reported a year ago, and the news has confused fans.
The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. There is no moment in them where the main character – Geralt – would change in appearance. The producers note that the answer to the question of Geralt’s personality change should be sought in the fifth and seventh parts of the book series – Baptism by Fire or Lady of the Lake.
“We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt with Liam (Hemsworth). I won’t go into those ideas because it would be a huge spoiler, (but) the explanation is very close to the meta ideas that are deeply rooted in the books, especially in part 5. I think everything will turn out perfectly,” Baginski said.
Gaub noted that Cavill’s final scenes would be “very strong”. “I think the most important thing for us was to make sure that he (Henry Cavill – Russian media) is very proud of these last (scenes). These last episodes have been very strong for his Geralt, ”said Gaub Fans have a negative attitude towards the idea of ​​replacing the actor: although Cavill does not look too much like a book hero, he himself is a fan of games and books about the Witcher, he therefore pays great attention to character development.
The producers also added that in the new season the viewer will learn more about one of the main characters of the series – Ciri – and her magical abilities. The third season of the series is based on the novel “The Hour of Scorn” (this is the fourth part of the book series), where Ciri actually becomes the main character. If at the beginning she was still a child, now she will have to fight the monsters herself and take her destiny into her own hands.
The series “The Witcher” is about fantasy world , where a war breaks out between fictitious states: the army of Nilfgaard, led by Emperor Emhyr and the witch, seizes the territories of the Continent. The main characters – the witcher Geralt, the witch Yennefer and Ciri, the granddaughter of the defeated queen of Cintra – attempt to stop the magicians and monsters who are wreaking havoc. The third season will air on June 29.
