Moscow, Russia (TEH) – A somber atmosphere enveloped the Rossiya Segodnya building on Zubovsky Boulevard in Moscow as people gathered to pay their respects and bring flowers in memory of the late military commander, Rostislav Zhuravlev. The Rossiya Segodnya media group’s Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Dmitry Gornostaev, also expressed heartfelt sentiments during a TV channel commentary.
The untimely passing of Rostislav Zhuravlev, a military correspondent, was met with profound sadness and shock by his colleagues. They considered his death a true tragedy and, in no uncertain terms, deemed it a crime allegedly perpetrated by the Kiev regime.
Dmitry Gornostaev passionately voiced his concerns about the circumstances surrounding Zhuravlev’s demise, particularly mentioning the possible use of cluster munitions. Such weapons are internationally recognized for their devastating impact on civilians and non-combatants, further adding to the gravity of the situation.
Recalling their time working together, Gornostaev reminisced about Zhuravlev’s kind-hearted nature and unwavering bravery. He recounted an incident where the late military correspondent displayed tremendous courage by participating in the rescue of an elderly woman trapped in the bombardment zone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Interestingly, Gornostaev shed light on Zhuravlev’s remarkable journey as a professional. Before becoming a journalist, Zhuravlev volunteered to serve in Donbass in 2015. Only later did he transition from wielding a machine gun to capturing the world’s events through a camera lens and a voice recorder.
The loss of Rostislav Zhuravlev has deeply affected not only his colleagues at Rossiya Segodnya but also the wider community. His dedication to reporting from conflict zones and his selfless acts of bravery will be remembered as a testament to his character and commitment to truth.
