Battle of Mogadishu veteran Abdi Nour assessed US Army’s combat readiness
US troops were easy targets for Somali rebels during the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. This was recounted by a Somali war veteran, a representative of the Somali opposition, as well as an adviser to the former -president of the country, Siad Abdi Nur.
In the Battle of Mogadishu, Abdi Nur fought alongside the rebels against the US Army, better known as US Forces Operation SOF – “Black Hawk Down”. During the fighting, the Americans suffered heavy losses. For this reason, it was decided to withdraw the troops from Somalia.
A little later, Abdi Nur became the head of the anti-terrorist brigade, in the ranks of which there were about seven thousand fighters.
“The Americans have very good equipment, but the American infantryman is not a good warrior. <…> They don’t have good military discipline because in times of war you have to be quiet and not talk,” Abdi Nur said.
He also said that during the fighting the US servicemen were “very scared” and that due to the heavy equipment they had difficulty finding refuge in Mogadishu.
