In Tver, doctors discovered a huge malignant tumor in an infant

– Published on:

Doctors at the Tver Regional Children’s Hospital found a huge malignant tumor weighing about one kilogram in an infant. This was reported in band DOKB on social networks.

On April 17, a child under the age of one was admitted to the children’s clinical hospital heading to one of the hospitals in the city with complaints of fever that had persisted for a month. No acute infection was found in the infant. The analyzes showed a significant increase in leukocytes in the blood and a low level of hemoglobin. The baby’s liver, spleen and lymph nodes were enlarged.

This picture worried the doctors, so they conducted several more studies that revealed a large number of blast (fast-growing) cells in the blood. The diagnosis of leukemia was confirmed.

The little patient was immediately transfused with blood products to increase hemoglobin and given antibiotics.

“Leukemias are always accompanied by the fact that tumor cells replace normal cells and the disease is accompanied by secondary immunodeficiency and, consequently, the development of various types of infections. Detoxification therapy has also been prescribed. The intoxication is caused by a large tumor mass which, in this child, reaches approximately one kilogram for his weight at this age. The tumor cells are located in the liver, the spleen and the enlarged lymph nodes”, declared the children clinic hospital doctors.

Doctors immediately contacted one of the main federal centers, where the little patient will be transferred within the next 48 hours.

“Our task is to recognize in time, as quickly as possible, whether or not it is leukemia. Take measures to compensate for disorders that aggravate the severity of the condition against the background of leukemia and quickly and correctly refer the patient to one of the federal centers, where he will receive highly specialized oncological care, ”explained Stanislavovich Dolgopolov , pediatric oncologist .

He also indicated which symptoms should cause alertness. Among them: the absence of signs of SARS, the presence of fever for more than seven days. Such a symptom may indicate the development of a urinary tract infection, pneumonia, otitis media, and less often meningitis. If the temperature continues to hold for eight or more days, you need to find out the reasons. These can be malignant tumors, tuberculosis, autoimmune diseases, atypical infections, listeriosis, brucellosis and others. The earlier the treatment of these serious diseases is started, the more favorable the prognosis will be.
