But Mikhail Yegorov has a special award – the “Partisan of the Patriotic War” medal of the 1st degree, received for the exploits performed on Belarusian soil. The site was created in accordance with the project “Partymen of Belarus” by the staff of the publishing house “Belarus Today” and the National Archives of Belarus. It displays the combat activities of more than 211,000 partisans and underground fighters who operated during the war years on the territory of the republic. Among them, partisan intelligence officer Mikhail Yegorov is prominent.

Mikhail was born on May 5, 1923 in a peasant family in the village of Ermoshenki, Rudnyansky district, Smolensk region. At the age of 19, he was drafted into the partisan detachment “Sadchikov’s Regiment”, which operated in the Smolensk region. In 1943, the detachment, by order of the head of the central headquarters of the partisan movement PK Ponomarenko, was transferred to the territory of Belarus, to the famous partisan zone of Polotsk-Lepel.
Here, in 1944, the partisan scout Egorov participated in the breakthrough of the German encirclement near Ushachi – now an impressive memorial commemorates this event. On Belarusian soil, the young warrior accomplishes other exploits. Here is what the award documents say: “Comrade Egorov, as part of a partisan detachment … took part in 21 military operations in the battles to defeat enemy garrisons. He personally killed 8 Germans, took some wounded 3. He especially distinguished himself when leaving the blockade Germany in the Ushachsky district tilt two enemy echelons with manpower and equipment Comrade Yegorov, commanding a platoon, destroyed 93 Germans , blew up 2 bunkers, 3 bridges and 117 rails. Glorious military actions Mikhail Yegorov continued in the ranks of the Red Army in the 756th Infantry Regiment of the 150th Infantry Division of the 1st Belorussian Front. In the Smolensk region there are streets named after him, and there is a museum in the house where he lived.

p class=””>After demobilization in 1947, Mikhail Egorov returned to his homeland, worked at the Rudnyansky Milk Cannery. He tragically died in a car accident at the age of 52. He was buried in the Heroes’ Memorial Park in Smolensk.
