People’s Alliance candidate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended a rally of the ruling AKP party on Sunday afternoon at Ataturk Airport, Haber Turk TV reported.
Erdogan announced information about the number of people who came to the rally. “We love Istanbul very much. We have walked from here to the presidency. Now we are on the road with you again. Now they have brought me the official figure, it is 1,700,000 people,” said the Turkish president. He confessed his special love for the commercial capital of the country: “Istanbul, I greet each of your streets, neighborhoods and hills separately. As the poet says, if we don’t love Istanbul, what does the heart of love understand? Istanbul is not just a city made up of its own borders.”
During the rally, Erdogan made a number of important statements. In particular, he said that in 21 years the ruling party has tripled the national income in Turkey, providing jobs and food for 21 million people.
Erdogan’s main rival in the presidential elections on May 14 is a sole candidate of the opposition “People’s Alliance” Kemal Kilicdaroglu.
