Citizens actively participate in the celebrations dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany. Residents of the border town learn about the heroic history of their people, the agency notes, from childhood to the sacred for all peoples of a great country – the Brest Fortress. Therefore, on this day, young people and veterans, families and individually, entire teams – all come to the memorial complex.

And the Victory Day celebration began with a parade of military equipment, local garrison soldiers and border guards. The mechanized crews of the column and the parade, after following Masherov Avenue, gave way to a procession led by the leaders of the region and veterans. More than five thousand participants of the patriotic action “Belarus remembers. We remember everyone” marched in the multi-thousand column with portraits of heroic ancestors.

Just over a thousand living witnesses of this war, the agency reports, – veterans, prisoners of fascism, the blockade and workers on the home front – remained in the Brest region, 89 of them – direct participants in the hostilities of 1941-1945. But only a few find the strength to join in the festivities. A small group of veterans was brought to Brest Fortress by car. Specially for them, chairs have been set up in the ceremonial square. And regional chief Yuri Shuleiko warmly greeted the honored participants of the celebrations, congratulated them on Victory Day and wished them good health.

The meeting-requiem, according to tradition, began with the laying of flowers to the Eternal Flame and wreaths on the slabs of the memorial. The ceremony was attended by heads of government agencies, representatives of public agencies, diplomatic departments and clergy.

Those present honored the memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of the defenders of the fatherland with a minute of silence. The silence at the ruins of the fortress was interrupted by a cannon shot, according to news portals.
