The ceremony, held at the Uzbek State University of Physical Culture and Sports, was attended by the leaders of Uzbekistan and the International Boxing Association, participants of the world championship, guests of honor.

Double heavyweight boxing champion of Uzbekistan (1938, 1939). He was drafted into the Red Army in 1941 with the rank of Red Army Private. Twice injured. He was taken prisoner during the retreat of Soviet troops across the Dnieper. At first he was held in a POW camp near Dresden, after two escape attempts he was sent to Buchenwald.<p class=””>The German officer who selected the athletes for the concentration camp’s amateur ring, having learned of Borzenko’s sporting past, forced him to participate in boxing demonstration fights for the entertainment of the camp staff. In total, before his release on April 11, 1945, Borzenko held more than 80 fights in Buchenwald, winning them all.<p class=””>The organizing committee of the Tashkent championship has created a new award – “For the will to win by the name of Andrei Borzenko”, which will now be awarded to a boxer who has proven the right to inherit the great athlete.

There was also a screening of the documentary feature “Borzenko. The ring behind the barbed wire” (director Elena Geladze-Moshtal, producer Vladimir Pirozhok), a meeting with the authors of the film took place.
