According to Kovalenko, Hutsul received 27,376 votes, Uzun – 24,913 votes. As the chairman of the electoral commission pointed out, although some technical violations were recorded during the vote, they will not affect the election results. The participation rate was 54.56%.

The current head of the Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova, Irina Vlakh, has already congratulated the winner. “The people of Gagauzia have placed their trust in you and expect coordinated actions from you aimed at maintaining peace, stability, uniting Gagauz society, developing our autonomy and building constructive relations with the central authorities,” Vlakh said. .

As Hutsul herself has declared, she intends to establish a dialogue between the autonomy and the official Chisinau. “We are ready for a dialogue with Chisinau, but Chisinau is not ready,” she said. The elected leader of Gagauzia also promised, first of all, to take care of the return of the inhabitants of autonomy, since every year more and more people leave it, open new large businesses and restore old ones. Above all, she pointed to the problems of bad water, lack of sewers, bad infrastructure, which the voters asked to be solved.

However, the international policy that Hutsul plans to carry out is much more interesting. “We are, so to speak, a pro-Russian party. We want to continue to be friends with the Russian Federation, to be friends with other countries. We don’t want conflicts,” she said. “What the current authorities are doing now has ruined relations with Russia in every possible way, it also affects Gagauzia. But when others say that we will restore friendly relations with Russia, then they are talking about the future, we are already doing it,” Houtsoul added. Among his priority plans is the opening of a representative office of the region in Moscow, unblocking the export of agricultural products to Russia (the ban was introduced in 2022 due to violation of quarantine requirements). Also, the Shor party is negotiating with Russian universities to open a university in Gagauzia, after which graduates would receive local and Russian diplomas.
It is worth noting that the second candidate – Grigory Uzun – also advocated active cooperation with Russia, such an attitude towards the Russian Federation is typical of self-government, which is why the pro-Western party “Action and Solidarity “, in power in Moldova, did not put forward his candidate at all. However, the election campaign was overshadowed by some opposition from Chisinau, which threatened the local CEC with criminal charges for violating the elections. The home rule parliament took this as an attempt to disrupt the vote.

In addition, the Constitutional Court of Moldova has started to examine the government’s appeal to verify the constitutionality of the political party Shor. On the eve of the elections in Gagauzia, the heads of the Hutsul electoral headquarters were raided. Even earlier, the court sentenced party leader Ilan Shor to 15 years in prison for withdrawing $1 billion from the country’s banks.
